It was Christmas Eve out on the wide open plain,
The cattle were bedded, the horses were reined.
The bunkhouse was quiet, the lantern burned low,
While outside the sky filled with crisp winter snow.
The coyotes were howlin’, the prairie wind sighed,
When a jinglin’ of spurs drifted in from outside.
