Two November events showcase rodeo competition and ranch horse versatility in Warner

November will bring two weekends of equine competition to Connors State College as rodeo contestants, ranch horse exhibitors, alumni and spectators gather at the Fred Williams Arena in Warner. From fast-paced timed events to classes designed to demonstrate the versatility of the working ranch horse, the events reflect the college’s longstanding connection to Oklahoma’s agricultural and Western heritage.
The first event, the Alumni and Friends Timed Event Rodeo, is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 13. Competition begins at 7 p.m., with contestant books opening at 5 p.m.
The one-night rodeo will feature barrel racing, steer wrestling, calf roping, ladies breakaway roping and team roping. Competitors in select events will have multiple opportunities to compete, with barrel racers allowed two entries on different horses and team ropers permitted up to three entries.
The annual event brings together former Connors rodeo athletes, current students and competitors from across Oklahoma and neighboring states. While alumni have an opportunity to reconnect with the college, contestants compete in a variety of events that highlight the speed, timing and horsemanship central to rodeo competition.
J.T. Proffer will serve as judge, while Arlyn Imel will announce the evening’s competition.
One week later, attention shifts from the rodeo arena to the working ranch horse during the Alumni and Friends Versatility Ranch Horse Show, scheduled for Nov. 20-21.
Approved by both the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association, the show offers exhibitors an opportunity to earn year-end points while demonstrating the skills expected of today’s ranch horse. Competition begins at 1 p.m. Friday and resumes at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Judges Jeff Allen and Bobbie Jo Stanton will evaluate exhibitors in classes including VRH Cutting, VRH Ranch Cow Work, VRH Conformation, VRH Trail, AQHA Ranch Trail, VRH Ranch Riding, AQHA Ranch Riding and VRH Ranch Reining. Additional jackpot classes will also be offered throughout the weekend.
Versatility ranch horse competition emphasizes the qualities of a practical working horse, evaluating cattle work, trail obstacles, ranch riding and other skills used in everyday ranch operations. The event draws exhibitors from across the region while bringing together alumni, students and horsemen with an interest in ranch horse competition.
Together, the two November events highlight the broad range of disciplines supported through Connors State College’s agricultural and rodeo programs, offering opportunities for competition while celebrating the traditions that continue to shape Oklahoma’s horse industry.
